Beat the Heat in Charlotte
Beat the heat: here are a few popular ice cream shops in the city
Where did the summer go? Is it just me, or has time seemed to stand still but also fly by at the same time during this COVID-19 season? School will soon be back in session, and the fall months will be here before we know it. However, to soak in the final weeks of summer and to beat the heat, let’s talk about the season’s sweetest treat: ice cream.
There are several ice cream shops and parlors in and around the city. Whether you like frozen yogurt, soft serve or classic scoops, there is an ice cream spot in just about every Charlotte neighborhood. You could be team Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, team Two Scoops Creamery or somewhere in between -- everyone has a favorite. Read more to see some of Charlotte’s most popular spots.
Jeni’s is an artisan ice cream company that made its way to Charlotte not too long ago. There are three locations in Charlotte: NoDa, Madison Park and South End. This company is known for their unique flavors such as Brambleberry Crisp and Goat Cheese with Red Cherries. Not only does Jeni’s come in cups and cones, you can also buy your favorite flavor by the pint at the scoop shops and at various grocery stores.
Golden Cow Creamery was founded by two North Carolina natives. The couple shared a passion for ice cream and fostering community, which led to the start of Golden Cow. There are over 150 rotating flavors at this shop, with more being added to the mix all the time. Classic and crowd-favorite flavors include Fresh Strawberry, Salted Oreo and Dunkaroos, which you can find at the Southpark or SouthEnd location.
Two Scoops Creamery is another locally owned ice cream shop that is run by three friends who took their families’ recipes and ran with it. Two Scoops is known for their dual top cone and fun flavors, such as Cookie Monster. You can get your favorite Two Scoops flavor in Plaza Midwood, SouthEnd or Mooresville.
The Local Scoop is a local shop that uses locally-sourced ingredients to make their freshly crafted ice cream. Their dairy comes from Jackson Farms and Homeland Creamery. This shop is located in the Promenade Shopping Center and is now offering local delivery so you can get your sweet treat delivered to your front door. Flavors are constantly rotating, but some crowd pleasers include Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
