Elizabeth Lane Elementary Boundary Changes
Some changes in boundaries could be coming as early as May 2020 for a popular South Charlotte Elementary School in CMS -- Elizabeth Lane Elementary. Currently Elizabeth Lane is well over capacity and some estimates say they are as much as 154% over capacity. It draws from students in the Arboretum/Providence Road area. Some of the neighboring subdivisions where kids come from are: Hembstead, St. George, Oak Manor and other neighborhoods on Hwy 51 including neighborhoods in Matthews up to the Fullwood and Sardis Road area.
The past bond referendum voters approved included a new state of the art elementary school to replace Lansdowne Elementary. With the opening of this new school, the boundaries are proposed to shift to alleviate the overcrowding of Elizabeth Lane and move the students into the new school. CMS has not decided on the new boundaries but have proposed 2 options. There is what they are calling Elizabeth Lane Relief Scenario Blue and an Elizabeth Lane Relief Scenario Orange Scenario. In each scenario, the line shifts South toward Elizabeth Lane but does not cross Highway 51. The Blue Scenario actually splits up Beverly Crest (a large South Charlotte neighborhood). Historically, CMS has tried to keep large neighborhoods zoned to the same school. Neighborhoods that would be impacted with the Orange scenario are mainly those off Alexander Road.

While there is no easy solution for the parents or CMS with any boundary discussion, the CMS superintendent Earnest Winston has said that the students who get moved to Lansdowne will be able to remain in the South Charlotte Middle and Providence High School feeder track (rather than McClintock and East Mecklenburg). CMS will make a decision on the new boundary in May of 2020.
