Explore the Rail Trail

Looking for outside activities these days?  Don't miss a stroll on Charlotte's 3.5 mile Rail Trail.

In 2015 I was part of a group that heard the initial plans of creating a public trail seeking to unite communities, artists, places and people through use of greenway type spaces, public art and open spaces.  It was exciting to hear and reminiscent of Indianapolis' Cultural Trail that had been one of my favorite public spaces.

Fast forward to now and the Rail Trail is 3.5 mile trail that connects the communities of Sedgefield, Southside Park, Brookhill, Dilworth, Wilmore, and South End to Uptown.  It consists of public art installations like the Magic carpet Murals to gathering spaces like Edna's Porch to spaces that encourage collaboration and interaction like the Rail Yard Symphony.

The culmination of the Rail Trail comes with the announcement of the city installing a pedestrian bridge to connect South End to Uptoiwn.  The bridge will prove to be an iconic piece of infastructure that will connect two urban communities.

So go outside and social distance on Charlotte's Rail Trail!
