Things We Can't Wait to Do Again in Charlotte

It is no surprise that COVID-19 has heavily impacted the way our city’s businesses operate. Restaurants have faced temporary closures, concerts have been postponed, sporting events have been cancelled -- in short, almost all outings for entertainment have been put on hold temporarily.

However, as of recently, we have started to see a slight glimmer of a silver lining. As other surrounding states “open back up”, we wonder if stores, restaurants and bars will begin to open their doors again? Will the summer activities we’ve been anticipating all winter long still take place? As of right now, it is hard to tell.

Since almost all of our plans have changed due to the pandemic, we want to acknowledge the activities we are looking forward to once Charlotteans are safe to venture outside of their homes. Whether this happens during the summer, during the fall or even next summer, we created a list (in no specific order) of just a few of our favorite places we can’t wait to go back to once the pandemic has passed.

(1) U.S. National Whitewater Center

5000 Whitewater Center Parkway

The Whitewater Center is one of the most popular attractions here in Charlotte. Whether you are looking to brave the rapids, relax with a cold drink while listening to music during River Jam or ride bikes around the various trails, The Whitewater Center is known for being a place where people can play, relax and have a great time. We love that the trails are currently open, but we can’t wait until we can fully take advantage of the entire facility and the activities soon.

(2) Carolina Panthers Football

800 S. Mint Street

Here in the South, we love Football! There is nothing quite like waking up on Sunday mornings knowing that it is Carolina Panther gameday. Since the pandemic, sporting events have been nonexistent, and we miss sitting up in the Bank of America Stadium sporting our black and blue.

However, our Panther pride has not gone anywhere! We are looking forward to cheering on our team, tailgating at local bars and restaurants and coming together for some Carolina football.

(3) Food Truck Fridays

Food Truck Fridays have a way of making the work week worth it. Whether you attend Food Truck Friday Southend at Sycamore Brewing, Food Truck Friday Matthews at Stumptown Park or any other Food Truck Friday event, these Friday night events are the perfect way to end the work week and kickoff the weekend.

Charlotte is home to a variety of food trucks and local business owners who have a passion for the food and drink scene here in the city. We look forward to warm nights in the future where we can gather, share a meal and support our local food trucks.

(4) Summer Pops

4400 Sharon Road

Summer Pops are family-friendly concerts put on by our very own Charlotte Symphony, who does an extraordinary job putting on a show and exposing the crowd to a mix of music. Often called Pops in the Park, Summer Pops is a great event to grab the family, loved ones or friends, pack a picnic, and listen to live music at Symphony Park. As of right now, Summer Pops are postponed until June or until we see positive changes with the current COVID-19 climate we are in; however, we look forward to picnicking and listening to the symphony play soon.

(5) Carowinds

300 Carowinds Blvd

Although the park is currently closed for the summer, Carowinds is one of our favorite summertime destinations and has been around for about 45 years now. From the roller coaster rides to the fair games to the waterpark, a day spent at Carowinds is always full of excitement and adventure. Whether you are an adrenaline junkie or someone who likes to play it safe, there are attractions and games for people of all ages.

One of the newest roller roasters we cannot wait to ride is Copperhead Strike, the first double launch roller coaster in the Carolinas. Want to see how it rides in the meantime while we wait for the park to open? Head here to view the official point of view video.

Although almost all of these activities mentioned above are on hold, we look forward to getting out of the house to go to our favorite places when the city is safe once again.
