South Charlotte Homes for Sale
Just as the initial growth of fine Charlotte neighborhoods was south of Uptown Charlotte, subsequent growth followed a similar pattern. Today, South Charlotte homes and neighborhoods are arguably the region’s finest. And the growth south continues …all the way past the city's southern edge into the contiguous counties of Union, York and Lancaster. Though not technically South Charlotte homes, these newer homes share attributes with the older.
Mention South Charlotte homes to anyone familiar with Charlotte, including most newcomers, and two areas quickly come to mind.... South Park and Ballantyne. They are the two major destinations for living, shopping and working on the south side of the city…and they are home to many of the finest homes in South Charlotte. But South Charlotte is a huge area offering housing of all types and most prices.
Studying a map of the city, it seems simple enough to classify a South Charlotte home; however, for Charlotte real estate listings, a precise designation exists. Like an orange, Charlotte is divided into segments originating from the center (Uptown Charlotte). South Charlotte is the segment, called Area 5, extending due south and generally defined as the area between Park Road and Providence Road. From Uptown Charlotte and going south, Area 5 starts with Myers Park homes and ends with Bridgehampton homes.
South Charlotte Real Estate
South Charlotte real estate may give top billing to SouthPark & Ballantyne; but it includes other super stars. Dozens of neighborhoods, in a variety of price ranges, are accessible from the major arteries of Providence Road, Carmel Road, Park Road, Rea Road and N.C. 51 (Pineville - Matthews Road)…and countless shopping venues. The nice neighborhoods are too many to note; however, some of the most popular South Charlotte real estate can be found in the Arboretum Area, Stone Creek Ranch, Piper Glen, Waverly, Providence Plantation, Beverly Crest, Ardrey, Stonehaven and Providence Country Club.
As development of South Charlotte real estate continued south, a number of new retail/office hubs came on the scene…as trading areas were defined. New hubs over the past twenty years have included The Arboretum, Stonecrest & The Promenade, with each seemingly an improvement over the one before. The latest large scale hub, Blakeney, is truly spectacular, with retail offerings to rival many malls and services to rival private clubs. Blakeney also serves a good portion of Eastern Union County. Two of Mecklenburg’s most historic towns, Pineville & Matthews, in Southwest Charlotte and Southeast Charlotte, respectively, offer further alternatives to South Charlotte real estate.
Residents and neighborhoods now benefit from many years of diligent government planning, high standards and strict oversight of South Charlotte real estate development. The result is evident to all on the first visit to the area and causes many newcomers to call South Charlotte home.
