Too good to be true?

Not so, say the residents on Indian Trail and the many newcomers. In fact, Family Circle Magazine provided further proof by recently naming Indian Trail one of the ten best places to raise a family.

Little wonder that Indian Trail homes and subdivisions have multiplied in recent years. From a population of only 1,942 in 1990 the town grew to 11,905 in 2000 according to the 2000 census. The town claims a population of 27,161 as of 2005, albeit much of the recent growth has been through aggressive annexation.

Indian Trail homes are available in a variety of neighborhoods – some very large. Brandon Oaks has over a thousand homes with a wide array of amenities. Other popular neighborhoods include Bonterra, Anniston Grove, Colton Ridge, Lake Park, Sheridan, Tallwood Estates and Taylor Glenn. Besides the variety of subdivisions there are homes to be found in rural settings – common in Union County. Indian Trail homes are moderate priced with 61% of the homes sold in 2009 priced between $100-200k and only 5% over $300k.

Indian Trail Real Estate

The explosive growth of Indian Trail real estate beginning in the 1990's has slowed considerably. From peak sales of 850 homes in 2006 volume was less than half of that in 2009. As the “Great Recession” winds down, a lot of the Indian Trail real estate would be considered “steals” by past standards, including foreclosures & short sales.

This simply means a good time to buy – low home prices, very low interest rates and a large inventory of real estate for sale.

Although Indian Trail does not have “Main Street”, it has a number of major arterial roadways that contains much commercial real estate. Highway 74 and Old Monroe Road, plus a number of strip shopping centers, abounds with businesses of all types and opportunities for desirable real estate. Highway 74 is one of the busiest state roads in North Carolina. A big positive for living in Indian Trail is the close proximity to I-485 which provides easy access to North and South Charlotte, Charlotte-Douglas Airport.

People of all ages can find a lot to appreciate in Indian Trail.  It is a great place to raise a family or retire.  Our town offers many housing options at a wide range of price points.  From large subdivisions with many amenities, to rural settings, you can find the right place to call home. 

Indian Trail School :: Union County public schools

Students of Indian Trail attend the highly regarded Union County Public Schools which is 6th largest school system in the state and the fastest growing. Student enrollment increased 79% over the past ten years with 25 new schools opened during that time.

Indian Trail is served by two high schools: Porter Ridge High and Sun Valley High. The two middle schools, adjacent to the high schools, are Porter Ridge Middle and Sun Valley Middle.

The elementary schools are:

  • Hemby Bridge Elementary
  • Indian Trail Elementary
  • Poplin Elementary
  • Porter Ridge Elementary

All Indian Trail home buyers with children in school are advised to conduct their own research into potential schools before buying a home. This should include a visit to the school(s), in addition an analysis of all available information. The NC School Report Card provides an excellent picture of each school’s ranking in the state and district.
